Who is eligible to play…?

This special needs sports program is open to any athlete, male or female, between the ages of 5 years and 99 years old, with a developmental disability that would prevent them from participation in any other organized baseball programs.

How much does it cost…?

The registration fee is $20.00 per athlete, an additional $5.00 for each participating sibling thereafter.

Are you affiliated with Special Olympics…?

No. Our program is not currently affiliated in any way to the Special Olympics. Some of our athletes are enrolled with the Special Olympics which will not conflict with Sports For Special Kids.

How do I get my athlete involved…?

Sign-ups are held in January of each year at St. John's Lutheran Church. After January, enrollment information can be obtained by calling 215-536-7960 or 215-536-4043, or downloading the necessary forms by clicking this link;

When do you play…?

The minor league, ages 5-13 years old, play games every Sunday in May and June at 4:00pm. The major league, ages 14-99 years old, practice every Sunday in April, and games are every Sunday in May and June. There are no games on Memorial weekend. The First game in May starts at 3:00pm instead of the regular 4:00pm. The last game in June is played at 3:00pm too, immediately following the game is the awards banquet held at Richland Township Fire & Rescue (Shelly's).

Isn’t baseball dangerous…?

Baseball is no more dangerous than any other athletic activity. Our league has modifications of the rules to accommodate the abilities of our athletes. Our coaching staff is very experienced, and all practices and games are carefully supervised.

How experienced is your coaching staff…?

Our coaching staff consists of volunteer adult family members who are carefully screened and are well versed with special needs athletes. All games are supervised by at least one member of the board of directors.

How long has your program been around…?

We took to the baseball diamond in May 2003. We started with 21 athletes and 1 team. Currently, we have 55 athletes and 4 teams involved in the program.

Are there other teams like yours…?

Yes. There are other organizations like ours within the surrounding counties that offer a similar experience.

Is Sports For Special Kids a non-profit organization…?

Yes. We are recognized as a non-profit organization by the IRS, and every dollar donated to us is 100% tax deductible.

How do I get more information…?

You may contact us at 215-536-7960, 215-536-4043, or send an email to Sports For Special Kids.

How do I volunteer?

We get LOTS of offers for volunteers, and while we appreciate the interest, we can't use everyone. The first step is for you to come to practice and introduce yourself. It helps to have a full understanding and knowledge of the game. If you would like to do something, please tell everyone you can about the program. The more people know about it, the more it will grow.
